Michael Saylor on the record
Every statement carries its quote, its source, its date and its review state. A verdict only ever comes from a documented record, per the publication standard.
"Bitcoin is the apex property of the human race."
Saylor made the case on CNBC’s Squawk on the Street in May 2021, calling bitcoin an institutional-grade safe haven asset and saying he intended to keep buying. He has repeated the phrase in interviews since.
Saylor publicly urged Elon Musk to "do your shareholders a $100 billion favor" by converting Tesla’s balance sheet to bitcoin.
In December 2020 Saylor tweeted directly at Musk, offering to share his treasury playbook. Tesla bought $1.5 billion of bitcoin in February 2021, which Saylor later credited to the exchange.
"Gold should be scared of bitcoin."
Saylor argued bitcoin’s superiority as a store of value would draw capital away from gold, and that institutions were early in the reallocation toward it.
"#Bitcoin is a swarm of cyber hornets serving the goddess of wisdom, feeding on the fire of truth, exponentially growing ever smarter, faster, and stronger behind a wall of encrypted energy."
Saylor’s pinned tweet, quoted in coverage of MicroStrategy’s June 2021 purchase of 13,005 bitcoin for about $489 million, when the company held more than 105,000 BTC.
"Bitcoin is the exit strategy."
In a February 2024 Bloomberg TV interview, Saylor said MicroStrategy had no plans to sell its bitcoin "anytime soon, or potentially ever", arguing bitcoin is technically superior to gold, real estate, and the S&P 500 as a store of value.

Bitcoin treasury strategy
MicroStrategy holds bitcoin as its primary treasury reserve asset, funded through operating cash, equity issuance, and convertible debt. The company discloses each purchase tranche, and Saylor has described the policy as a permanent holding program rather than a trading book. JMM tracks the strategy through the company’s SEC filings.

The apex property thesis
Saylor’s investment argument: bitcoin is the highest-return store of value, a "city in cyberspace" with a fixed supply, and corporations should convert balance-sheet cash into it to outrun inflation and equity dilution over multi-decade horizons.
